Four Steps To Installing Hit And Miss Garden Fenci

Four Steps To Installing Hit And Miss Garden Fenci

Like many others generally people who are installing garden fencing will choose to go for either the palisade or close board kinds. However, these are lacking in some areas and so if you want something that provides you with the best features of both you should consider getting some hit and miss fencing installed instead.

As well as hit and miss fencing stopping people from having the opportunity to see into your garden it still allows plenty of air to travel through. Yet this fencing not only offers a high level of privacy that you get from close board fencing but provides a high level of security as well.

Before one install this type of fencing there are certain things that will need to be taken into consideration first. However, in this article we are going to provide some advice on what should be done when installing the posts to hold the hit and miss fencing in place if the work will be done by you.

Step 1 - What high and width the posts required for your fence will be is determined by the actual height of the hit and miss fencing panels themselves. For example if you intend to use fencing panels that measure 6ft you will need to get posts that are over 8ft in length and are 3 x 3 inches square. Whilst if you are going to install panels that are 8ft then the posts for this type of fencing will need to be over 10ft high and 4 x 4 inches square. Along with making sure that the height and width of the posts is correct make sure that you buy enough so that there is between each end of the panels that are to be fixed to them.

Step 2 - The first thing to do is actually put the first and last posts of the fencing into their relevant positions and between them stretch and line or string taut. Keep this string in position and this will ensure that the rest of the posts as they are put in place will be level with the others.

Step 3 - Once you have worked out the exact position for each post for the hit and miss fencing to be attached to you are now ready to start digging the holes into which they are going to be placed. It is best if you start at one end of the fence and work your way down the post line. As you dig each hole make sure that each one measures the same width and depth. Also it is important that if you want to prevent movement of the posts or concrete during high winds the holes at the bottom should be flat and square.

Step 4 - The holes that you are digging should not go any further than 2 feet into the ground and when you have reached the depth you can drop the post into it. Make sure that when you drop the post into the hole that there is sufficient post above ground for the complete height of each fencing panel to be attached to them. Once you have the height of each post right now is the time to pour in your concrete mixture which will then ensure each posts remains firmly in place. You are best off using a semi-dry concrete mixture for installing fencing posts and so this will mean for each post you should use 1/4 of a 25kg bag of concrete.

After you have carried out the above you should allow the concrete time to set before you actually start to attach the hit and miss fencing panels to the posts. Also something else worth doing before you fix the posts into position is to drill pilot holes for where the fixing nails will be going through to help secure the panels in place to the posts. Doing this beforehand will actually help to stop the battens splitting as the nails are driven into them.
